The defense industry complex of Ukraine has resumed production of 5.45 39 and 5.56 45 mm caliber cartridges for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Photos from a firing range where Ukrainian-made 5.45×39 mm cartridges were fired have appeared online. According to information on the packaging, they were made in June 2024. This was reported by “Military” with reference to the Telegram channel “About weapons”.
It is indicated that the cartridges are loaded with a ball with a solid metal shell weighing 4 grams. Its tail part has a rounded conical shape, which should have a positive effect on the ballistic characteristics and accuracy of the shot. And the ballistics of Ukrainian cartridges when shooting at a distance of 400 m are similar to those of the Soviet army cartridges 7N6.
It is also noted that after the Luhansk Cartridge Plant came under the control of the occupiers in 2014, Ukroboronprom lost its capacity to produce ammunition for small arms. That is why the resumption of production is an outstanding event for the Ukrainian defense industry.
“Military” suggests that, most likely, cartridges are produced in Ukraine and cartridges are assembled from ready-made components.
Let us recall that Ukraine will purchase ammunition using funds raised through the UNITED24 platform. The Defense Procurement Agency has already signed a contract worth UAH 47 million. This is the first contract after the government gave permission to use the money raised on the platform for defense purchases.
