Currently, Astana maintains a position of “restricted neutrality” and maintains relations with both Russia and Ukraine.
Kazakh authorities are ready to act as a mediator or provide a platform for peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. This is what Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic Roman Vasilenko said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
This is how the representative of the country answered the question about the position of Kazakhstan in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“Kazakhstan initially offered its services as a possible mediator or venue for negotiations between the two parties. This position has not changed,” said Vasilenko.
The diplomat explained that Astana takes a position of “restricted neutrality” and maintains relations with both Russia and Ukraine.
“We expect that in due time our services will be needed, which is why we are taking a reserved position,” he explained, adding that the Kazakh authorities respect the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of the state.
In the past, India has agreed to send messages between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but does not plan to play the role of mediator in ending the war.
Let’s remember that after the meeting with Zelensky, Scholz spoke in favor of speeding up the transition to the peace process in Ukraine.
It was also reported that the United States would help Ukraine strengthen its position ahead of possible negotiations to end the war.
