The Security Service detained an FSB agent operating in Chernihiv Oblast. The attacker adjusted missile strikes on the regional center and prepared a series of arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.
The priority targets of the enemy shelling were the bases of Ukrainian troops involved in the defense of Ukraine’s northern borders. According to available information, the occupiers planned to use Kh-59 air-launched missiles for fire damage.
The Russian special service also tried to scout out the locations of enterprises carrying out state defense orders.
To carry out these tasks, the FSB remotely recruited a 44-year-old worker at a local plant. The man came to the attention of the Russian special service because of his anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.
Following the instructions of the occupiers, the defendant drove around the area, where he secretly recorded the location of the Defense Forces.
He sent the information he received via messenger to his Russian curator through a specially created chat bot administered by the FSB.
In addition, the agent “hunted” for railway relay cabinets in the region. It is documented how the suspect set fire to technological equipment near the main line using a flammable mixture.
SBU officers detained a Russian agent “hot on the trail” when he was preparing to commit new arson attacks on the railway.
During searches of the house of the detainee and his relatives, eight combat grenades, cartridges of various calibers and a telephone with evidence in favor of Russia were seized.
Security Service investigators informed him of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
- Part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law).
In addition, the issue of additional qualification of the defendant’s criminal actions for illegal handling of weapons and ammunition is being resolved. The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The special operation was carried out by SBU officers in the Chernihiv region and military counterintelligence officers of the SBU together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv regional prosecutor’s office.
