The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has announced a demarche to the Mongolian side in connection with the visit of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to Mongolia.
On Thursday, September 12, the Foreign Ministry announced Mongolia’s demarche during a meeting with the Director General of the Department of Europe and Africa of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry, Gankhuurai Battungalag. The official arrived from Ulaanbaatar at the request of Kyiv. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported this on Telegram.
The Mongolian side was informed of Ukraine’s deep disappointment with Mongolia’s refusal, as a signatory country to the Rome Statute, to comply with the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Putin during his stay in the country, the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that they will not leave this without a proper response. Kyiv will take this decision into account in the further policy of developing bilateral relations with Mongolia and in developing Ukraine’s position regarding support for this country in international formats.
Ukrainian diplomats also expressed hope that Ulaanbaatar will work to restore “the constructive nature of traditionally friendly Ukrainian-Mongolian relations, which meets the interests of both states.”
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Mongolia on September 2 on an official visit, despite the fact that he was supposed to be arrested on an ISS warrant. The media reported that Mongolian authorities allegedly provided the dictator with security guarantees.
The Mongolian government later explained that they did not arrest him because of energy dependence on Russia.
