A “peaceful settlement” from the former US President could mean a freeze on the war on the demarcation line and a non-aligned status for Ukraine.
Republican US vice-presidential candidate JD Vance spoke about how he sees Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine. This may involve the creation of a “demilitarized zone” in territories occupied by the Russian Federation. And Ukraine at this time had to refuse to join NATO. Vance said this on the Shawn Ryan Show podcast.
“I think this is what it’s going to look like. Trump sits down and says to the Russians, Ukrainians and Europeans, ‘You need to know what a peace settlement looks like.’ and Ukraine will be like a demilitarized zone.
In his opinion, in this case, Ukraine will retain its independence and sovereignty.
“Russia receives a guarantee of neutrality from Ukraine that it will not join NATO or join any allied institutions,” he added.
JD Vance also said that “Russia wants this war over” and “Ukraine wants this war over in Europe.”
“Europe, by the way, lacks support for Ukraine, while American taxpayers are very generous to Ukrainians,” said Vance.
According to him, Europe wants to end the war in Ukraine because of the increase in energy prices. Vance also believes that Europe should be responsible for restoring Ukrainian infrastructure destroyed by Russia.
Trump previously said he would “get a negotiation” between Putin and Zelensky if elected.
In his opinion, the drop in oil prices to $40 per barrel is enough and Putin cannot continue the war.
