The entry of contaminated water from a Russian sugar factory into the Seimas has led to significant environmental damage, the consequences of which Ukraine has been struggling for weeks.
The cost of environmental damage in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions due to the pollution of the Seim and Desna rivers has reached more than 405 million Hryvnias, said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources.
Thus, the entry of dirty water from a Russian sugar factory into the Seimas led to great environmental damage, the consequences of which Ukraine has been struggling for several weeks.
Dirty water is moving towards the border of the Kiev region.
“I stress immediately that the situation is under control. All state and local authorities and responsible services are working in enhanced mode to reduce the consequences. The pollution is less concentrated than in the Seym and the areas of collecting water in the Chernihiv region. It will reach the Kiev region in less concentration, “said Grinchuk.
According to Kievvodokanal and estimates of scientists, wastewater treatment plants in the Kyiv region will face this challenge.
Separately, Kievvodokanal prepared 120 tons of pulverized activated carbon. If the situation worsens, improved water purification technology will be used.
We remind you that at the end of August, pollution with organic substances was discovered in the Seim and Desna rivers. Local residents are forbidden to take water from the rivers for technical needs, fishing and swimming.
Today it became known that pollution in Desna accumulated in Chernigov at the site of a destroyed road bridge.
Information also appeared about when exactly the contaminated water will reach the Kyiv region.
