Estonia is changing the procedure for providing assistance for renting housing to Ukrainian refugees.
From September 11, the Estonian Social Insurance Board intends to provide one-time assistance for renting housing only to those Ukrainian refugees who have recently arrived in the country.
As long as this compensation does not depend on the refugee’s income, all Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Estonia from 24 February 2022 and received temporary protection can apply for it.
It is known that the amount of one-time compensation is a maximum of 1200 euros.
In Estonia, a significant number of Ukrainian refugees have been in the country for more than a year and have applied for rental assistance after their initial residence permits were extended.
Since 11 September, such compensation can only be provided if the relevant application was submitted by the refugee within the first six months after receiving the first residence permit in Estonia.
To receive assistance, a Ukrainian refugee must obtain temporary protection and also register his place of residence with the local government.
