Organic substances have passed through some parts of the river, settled at the bottom and dissolved, the head of government noted.
The pollution of the Seim River was caused by the discharge of sewage from a sugar factory in the Russian village of Tetkino in the Kursk region. These ingredients are organic, Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said at a press conference on Tuesday, September 10.
According to him, the oxygen level in the water dropped and the fish died.
“We understand that the substances are organic, they cause pollution in some parts of the river that have already passed, restoration processes have taken place where it passes closer to the border. At the moment, the organic matter is dissolved and melting said.
He assured that there is no threat to people’s lives and health. There is also no threat to the water intakes of Chernigov on the Desna River and Kyiv on the Dnieper.
Organic pollution is cleaned using activated sludge, and dead fish are collected.
We remind you that at the end of August, pollution with organic substances was discovered in the Seim and Desna rivers. Local residents are forbidden to take water from the rivers for technical needs, fishing and swimming.
Today it became known that pollution in Desna accumulated in Chernigov at the location of a destroyed road bridge.
Information also appeared about when contaminated water will reach the Kyiv region.
