The missile attack on the Kyiv children’s hospital was led by Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, the SBU noted.
The SBU and the UCP reported suspicion in absentia to the Russian general who ordered the missile attack on the medical building of the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv. We are talking about Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, who at that time held the position of commander of long-range aviation of the air force of the Russian Aerospace Forces. This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the SBU Sergei Naumyuk at a working meeting with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan and Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin, the SBU press center notes.
After carrying out this strike, the Russian war criminal was promoted and appointed commander of the Russian Air Force.
The investigation established that, on the order of Kobylash, on July 8, 2024 at 09:15, a Russian Tu-95MS rocket bomber launched an X-101 missile at a children’s hospital in Kyiv. The shooting at Okhmatdyt was carried out by the 22nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Division of the Long-Range Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
The enemy plane took off from an airport near the Russian city of Olenegorsk, and launched a missile in the Saratov region of the Russian Federation at a distance of about 600 km from the Ukrainian border. The X-101 entered Ukrainian airspace in the Chernigov region and began maneuvering, constantly changing its flight path over the territories of four Ukrainian regions.
The missile was programmed to bypass Ukrainian air defenses as much as possible and then hit a medical facility. At approximately 10:45, the Russian X-101 entered the intensive and efferent treatment unit for acute and chronic intoxication at the Okhmatdyt hospital.
As a result of the shooting, two people were killed, including a pediatric nephrologist. Another 35 were injured, including 9 children. At the scene, law enforcement officials discovered the remains of an enemy missile with markings indicating it was manufactured at the Russian Raduga Design Bureau in the second quarter of 2024.
Based on the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service informed Kobylash of suspicion in absentia under the article Violation of the laws and customs of war, including intentional murder, committed by the prior conspiracy of a group of people (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code), which provides for life imprisonment.
Kobylash is now suspected of committing other war crimes in Ukraine: under his leadership, shelling of civilian energy infrastructure was carried out in 2022-2023. In March 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Kobylash for these war crimes.
As we have already written, on July 8, the Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine. One of the targets was the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv. The SBU established that the Russians attacked the hospital with an X-101 missile. A video of this attack has been released.
