The White House commented on the fall of Russian drones in two NATO countries.
The violation of Latvian and Romanian airspace by the Shaheds is “not a new phenomenon.” However, Washington is closely monitoring what is happening. This was stated by the US National Security Council’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby. The corresponding statement was published on the White House website.
Unfortunately, this is not a new phenomenon, as happened during the war in Ukraine, when fragments of missiles or drones sometimes get into air battles and fall on the territory of a neighboring country. We are closely monitoring this, he noted.
Kirby added that the United States is in close contact with allies and partners on this matter. He emphasized that these “Shahed” cases only highlight the danger that Russia’s war in Ukraine has brought to the entire European continent.
Let us recall that on September 8, during an attack on Ukraine, a group of attack UAVs flew into Romanian airspace. County residents of Tulcea and Constanta received notifications about the threat of dangerous objects falling. Subsequently, the “Shaheds” attacked the Odessa region.
And on September 9, it became known that a Russian kamikaze drone had crashed in Latvia. The command of the Latvian Armed Forces stated that the appearance of the drone could not be considered an open military escalation against Latvia, since its target was not that country.
