For Finns, the entire Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 was a shock.
Finland is strengthening its military potential and actively working with partners. The main purpose is defense if Russia attacks the country. The commander of the Finnish Defense Forces, Janne Jaakkola, announced this on Monday, September 9, at the opening ceremony of the national defense course, Yle reports.
“We are concerned about safety. We cannot skimp on it,” said Jaakkola.
He noted that strengthening defense capabilities and cooperation with partners does not pose a threat to any country.
“We are preparing to defend our country as before,” Jaakkola emphasized.
The commander of the Finnish Defense Forces said that the entire Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 was a shock to the Finns.
“We joined NATO at the right time,” he added.
Jaakkola said that the Russian Federation now has little or no deterrents to the use of its armed forces. He also said that it cannot be denied that the war could expand in Europe.
We remind you that Finland made a statement about the opening of the border with Russia. The country’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen suggests that the issue of opening the border may be reconsidered in the fall.
