An unknown assailant in the center of the Spanish capital, Madrid, attacked Serbian Ambassador Irena Sarac, who was walking down the street and speaking Serbian while talking on the phone. This was reported by the Serbian media N1.
According to witnesses, the man, judging by his language, is of Albanian origin. The attacker approached Šarac, who was speaking on the phone in Serbian, and asked him if he was from Serbia, then kicked him in the back and fled.
Several witnesses tried to apprehend the attacker. The attack was reported to the police, who arrived at the scene and are conducting an investigation.
Foreign Minister Marko Djuric condemned the incident.
“I strongly condemn the physical attack on Ambassador Sarac in the center of Madrid. We demand a full investigation and accountability from all authorities for this outrageous incident and act of violence against the highest diplomatic representative of our country, ” said the Serbian official.
Despite the attack, everything is fine with the Serbian ambassador today.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied claims that he maintains close ties with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
