Phone calls for Russian prisoners of war have been banned in Ukraine.
The reason for this decision is the increase in cases of cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians. The highest military leadership of the aggressor country encourages the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets.
According to him, the ban on making phone calls is not a violation of the Geneva Convention, since the document only allows correspondence. The occupiers retain the opportunity to write letters home.
The ombudsman also criticized the International Committee of the Red Cross, saying it was ineffective in fulfilling its duties and failing to respond to Russian executions of Ukrainian soldiers.
We have come to the point where journalists all over the world are showing these images, demanding reactions from the ICRC, but there is no reaction. It seems to me that if the same “ostrich position” continues in the ICRC, then all countries of the world will understand why this organization exists at all if it does not fulfill its direct function – it cannot ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war, – he noted.
Recall that in the Zakarpattia region a woman stated that her father was illegally detained by the TCC and SP officers and beaten to death. The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated that this case requires an immediate, comprehensive and impartial investigation.
