NATO allies are trying to prevent a direct clash between the NATO Air Force and Russia, the head of the Dutch Ministry of Defense emphasized.
The possibility of partner countries shooting down Russian missiles and drones in Ukraine has more risks than benefits. This is what Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
The head of the Ministry of Defense noted that NATO’s participation in the shooting of Russian missiles on the territory of Ukraine will have limited advantages. In particular, if air defense systems are installed on the border of Ukraine, they will be able to cover a relatively small area.
“In this case, it means that you have to have planes in the sky to protect Ukraine. Then, of course, there will be a risk of a direct confrontation between the NATO air force and Russia,” explained Brekelmans.
The minister added that this is exactly the kind of escalation that NATO allies are trying to prevent. The Brekelmans believe that this strategy of partners, including in favor of Ukraine.
“We must always look for creative ways to help Ukraine But we must also weigh in each case whether the benefits outweigh the risks right now there is no difference.
Let’s recall that earlier the Polish authorities said that they will not shoot down Russian drones and missiles on the territory of Ukraine and will not train the military on the territory of Ukraine.
