Poland could shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine, but on one condition – if there is a threat to nuclear power plants.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated this in an interview with the BBC.
The Chernobyl nuclear accident happened in Ukraine. Imagine that a Russian drone or missile goes off course and flies not to Poland or Romania, as has happened before, but hits one of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
“I believe that we should help Ukraine protect its nuclear power plant,” he answered a question about the conditions under which Poland could shoot down Russian missiles in Ukrainian airspace.
The diplomat noted that in this case the issue will be about Poland’s right to self-defense.
At the same time, Sikorski emphasized that this proposal is his personal opinion; no decisions were made in Warsaw.
