General Secretary NATOJens Stoltenberg today called on the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin”immediately end” the war started Russia in Ukraine.
“President Putin must withdraw his troops and immediately end this war by stopping the attack on a democratic and sovereign state that causes so much suffering to Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said at a press conference following the Alliance summit in Madrid.
Stoltenberg stated that “President Putin’s brutal war in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable and brings a lot of death and harm to the Ukrainian people”, and “has consequences for the whole world due to rising food prices.”

At the end of the two-day Allied Heads of State and Government meeting, Stoltenberg made it clear that “this food crisis was not caused by sanctions NATObut the war Insert”.
In particular, the former Prime Minister of Norway praised this Turkey is working on an agreement that Greece is ready to provide ships for the export of grain from Ukraine and that other allies are involved in various diplomatic efforts to get grain through Black Sea.
In parallel Lithuania or Romania reported on their efforts to increase the capacity of railroads to carry grain overland.
panorama of the world
Stoltenberg acknowledged that the situation could “get worse, because if it escalates into a full-scale war between Russia and NATOthen we will see suffering, damage, death, destruction on a scale that will be much worse than what we see today in Ukraine.”
“NATO has two tasks: one is to support Ukraine; allies NATO they provide unprecedented support to Ukraine, we accelerate it and agreed on a package at this summit; but we also have a fundamental responsibility to prevent escalation outside of Ukraine,” he commented.
For this reason, he assured, NATO is not involved in the conflict on the ground: “We support such a valuable partner as Ukraine, but we are not part of the conflict,” he stressed.

For this reason, at this summit, the allies decided to increase their military presence in the east of the country. Europe“so as not to leave room for confusion or calculation errors in Moscow about our readiness to defend every inch of territory NATO”.
“Make sure no adversary makes a mistake if they do something like what Russia did with Georgia in 2008 or with Ukraine now,” he said.
What will they do in the face of a threat?
When asked about Moscow’s threats after the invitation of the Alliance Sweden and Finland to join the transatlantic club made it clear that “we are ready to defend all allies, of course also Finland and Sweden (after the ratification of their accession), and we are ready for all possibilities”.
At the Madrid summit, NATO approved a new strategy for the next decade that saw Russia as its main threat, while warning that China was “challenging” its values.
“We are addressing how Russia and China continue to seek political, economic and military benefits in our southern neighbourhood. Both Moscow and Beijing use economic influence, coercion and hybrid approaches to advance their interests in the region,” Stoltenberg said.
