The contact group, according to the general, should help Ukraine create its own industrial base, as well as find opportunities for joint production and repair of weapons.
The head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown, said that Ukraine needs help rebuilding its fighting forces and creating new ones between now and next spring. He said this at a press conference at the Ramstein military base (Germany) at the end of the 24th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“The challenge that remains to be solved (by the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine – ed.) is that Ukraine needs help in restoring its defense forces and creating new ones between now and next spring, providing parts, equipment and training to maintain the fleet of weapons systems provided to Ukraine,” Brown said.
The Contact Group should help Ukraine build its own industrial base, as well as find joint production opportunities and provide basic maintenance training, he said.
“This will create a strong domestic production and repair potential and let our continued support, along with Ukraine’s unwavering determination to defend itself, serve as a warning sign for every authoritarian regime,” the general emphasizes.
Brown also said that during the operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Ukrainian forces should defend other sectors of the front, including the Pokrovsky direction.
“Look at Pokrovsk, this is an area where the Russians have deployed their main capabilities, but we will continue to work closely with the Ukrainians to help defend this area, as well as all the territory that legally belongs to them. Determining this will mean we have to make sure they can protect other areas as well,” he said.
