Pollutants in the Desna River reached Chernigov as of September 5.
Water pollution, according to laboratory tests, is insignificant and typical for this period of the year.
Currently, there is a change in the nature of the movement of pollutants along the Desna River – it does not flow in a continuous mass, but moves along the deepest part of the river in separate spots. Pollution settles to the bottom, – the Ministry of the District reported.
Over the past 24 hours, measures have been taken to saturate surface water with oxygen in the section of the Desna River in front of Chernigov.
On the morning of September 3, the quality of water in the Desna in Chernihiv sharply worsened. This is the conclusion of Chernihivvodokanal.
According to the company, chemical oxygen consumption in the river has increased significantly over the past day; it now exceeds the standard by 4.5 times.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reported that they are trying to localize the consequences of the pollution of the Desna River, which arose after the pollution of the Seim River, where fish began to die. In particular, they began adding absorbent to the water of the Desna and carrying out artificial aeration.
Former Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets told Ukrinform that polluted waters were moving at a speed of 20-25 km per day. Now specialists are concentrating on preventing harmful substances from reaching Kyiv’s drinking water intake. At the same time, the results of the work, according to him, will be visible on September 5-6.
