Ukraine will prepare a detailed plan for ending the war for the second peace summit, which should be attended by representatives of the aggressor country, Russia.
Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with NBC News, said that Ukraine will prepare a plan to end the war with partners who supported the communiqué of the first peace summit. “We will do every point of these crises brought by Putin. We will do our version of the end of the war,” said Zelensky. The leader of the aggressor country also spoke about the negotiations;
Zelensky’s position
Ukraine understands that it is “very difficult” to end the war diplomatically without Russia, so there should be representatives of the Russian Federation at the second summit. The participants in the first Peace Summit also requested this, the president said.
“All the countries asked us to have Russian representatives at the second summit. We said: we are not against it, we understand everything, let’s prepare a plan and call them,” the president said.
Putin replied
Russia is not rejecting negotiations with Ukraine, but only on the basis of the agreements in Istanbul in March 2022, Russian dictator Putin said.
According to him, Russia has never rejected peace negotiations, “but not on the basis of some short-term demands, but on the basis of those documents that were agreed upon and actually initialed in Istanbul.” The Kremlin then demanded that Ukraine refuse to join NATO and significantly reduce the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces and weapons.
Answering the question of which country could be a mediator in these negotiations, Putin named three countries, while avoiding the word “war.”
“We respect our friends and partners, who I think are sincerely interested in solving all issues related to this conflict. These are, first of all, the People’s Republic of China, Brazil, and India. I am in constant contact with our colleagues on this issue,” Putin said.
The Russian dictator also expressed confidence that the leaders of these countries “are sincerely trying to understand all the details of this complex process.”
At the same time, on August 12, against the backdrop of the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, Putin said that no one can discuss any negotiations with Ukraine.
Austrian proposal
Austria is ready to accept peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, said Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
“We note the statements of the President of Russia about his readiness for peace negotiations with Ukraine. Any negotiations should take place without preconditions and in person. Austria, where the headquarters of the OSCE is located, is will be ready to support a just and lasting peace based on international law and serve as a venue for negotiations,” Nehammer wrote on the X social network.
