Due to breakdowns, two units of the nuclear power plant are not yet operating at full capacity.
A source at the energy market told ZN.UA about this. The generation deficit in the energy system increased by 625 MW:
- Khmelnitsky NPP – minus 200 MW (the breakdown occurred in the spring of 2023);
- South Ukrainian NPP – minus 425 MW (the breakdown occurred yesterday).
At PUAES, the main circulation pump seems to have failed. Fixing the problem may take a long time. Given this, many questions are raised about the quality of the scheduled preventive maintenance that NNEGC Energoatom carried out this summer.
The director of the Center for Energy Research, Alexander Kharchenko, wrote on his social networks about a repeated accident at the South Ukrainian NPP (the 600 MW power unit reduced output) and the probable repairs next week.
I must withdraw the forecasts I have been making publicly for the last couple of days about the normalization of electricity supplies. Yes, high-voltage networks are being restored and will be in order in a couple of days (as far as possible). But it is not yet possible to predict “surprises” from Energoatom.
Therefore, the question of the quality of repairs is attached to the question of the Minister of Energy on the protection of NPP switchgear. If the units fail in winter, we will all be in trouble, – wrote Kharchenko.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Energy did not comment on the information regarding the accident at the South Ukrainian NPP.
The Ministry of Energy had a similar position in the previous problems at this nuclear power plant in the summer.
