Mongolian authorities reportedly assured Putin that they would not arrest him. In the country itself, this can be explained by the dependence on energy in the Russian Federation.
Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said Mongolia violated its international obligations by refusing to arrest war criminal Vladimir Putin on an International Criminal Court warrant. He said this on Tuesday, September 3, in an interview with CNN.
According to the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, after the first reports of Putin’s visit to Mongolia, Kyiv’s reaction was “strong.”
“We sent them a clear signal in the run-up to the visit. It was ignored. We sent a clear signal after the visit started. It seems they are not paying attention,” he added.
Kuleba noted that Ukrainian authorities intend to discuss further actions with international partners after Putin’s visit to Mongolia.
“Judging by what I have seen, Mongolia has decided to openly violate its obligations under the Rome Statute,” the minister said.
Putin’s visit to Mongolia on September 3 was the first of a state party to the Rome Charter of the ISS since a court issued an arrest warrant for him in March 2023 for his involvement in the abduction of Ukrainian children.
Let us remind you that in Mongolia they explained why they did not arrest Putin on a warrant from the International Criminal Court because of energy dependence on Russia.
