Moscow is trying to meet its needs, which have grown due to the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region.
Russian officials are actively looking for new soldiers for the war in Ukraine in homeless shelters across Siberia and the Far East. This was reported by the sources of the Radio Liberty project “Siberia.Realities” on Monday, September 2.
According to volunteers and homeless shelter workers, the recruiting campaign is seasonal. In particular, a volunteer at a shelter in the suburbs of Angarsk, an industrial city in the Irkutsk region, told reporters that by 2023, recruiters “will come to us almost every day.”
“Of course, these fools are tempted by contract wages,” he said, referring to the homeless residents.
The publication noted that an advertisement posted on the website of the village administration in the Irkutsk region offered healthy adult men a one-time payment of 400,000 rubles ($4,388), as well as monthly payment of 210,000 rubles ($2,304) and other benefits. If you extend the contract for more than one year, it will bring an additional bonus of 195,000 rubles ($2,139).
At the same time, a shelter volunteer from the suburbs of Angarsk said that the homeless do not fully understand that they are playing a game of chance in their lives.
“They don’t understand that apart from the first guys who signed a six-month contract in 2022, no one has come back alive,” he stressed.
In the temporarily occupied territories, the Russian occupiers created separate detachments under the “Ministry of Internal Affairs”, whose task was the filtering actions of the local population.
