Russia is facing total annihilation of the population. The problem is “catastrophic.” This was said by the director of the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Albert Bakhtizin, in an interview with Russian Interfax.
“The decline in our population is catastrophic: we lose 500-600 thousand people a year. And this poses a threat to national security, due to the size of the territory and the need for a significant number of people to maintain the rate of growth necessary for the economy,” Bakhtizin emphasized.
He recalled the UN forecast, according to which by the end of the century the population of Russia will fall to 120.5 million people. At the same time, the expert noted that there is a more pessimistic estimate of 106 million people from the Institute, which is funded by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Bakhtizin added that the forecasts of the Russian Academy of Sciences show a further decrease in the birth rate in Russia, including due to a “significant decrease” in the number of women of fertile age – from 15 to 49 years , and in the most reproductive. age – from 20 to 29 years. “According to our calculations, in the 30th year the number of such women will decrease by 9%,” Bakhtizin clarified.
By the end of 2023, the fertility rate (the average number of children per woman of reproductive age) in Russia will decrease to 1.4 – a minimum of 17 years, and the number of births will decrease annually more for 10 consecutive years. .
