Measures to improve the health of the river must be taken after determining a safe way and overcoming the consequences of the emergency.
The movement of organic substances from Seim is gradually slowing down: Chernigov is still 74 km away. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine on Sunday, September 1.
Today, the organic matter from Seim is located at a distance of 92 km from the confluence of the River Seim in the city of Desna. The city of Chernigov is still 74 km away.
According to the preliminary forecast of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, organic pollution should reach Chernigov on August 30 – September 2 – it is 166 km from the confluence of the Seim River with the Desna River.
However, the current trend is a daily slowdown in the movement of organic substances due to their dilution in the water of the Desna River many times.
According to the State Water Agency, on August 30, in the city of Desna, organic matter moved at a speed of 26 km/day, 31 – 22 km/day, and on September 1 – 18 km/day. This trend will continue accordingly, pollution will reach Chernigov approximately September 3-5.
“We also inform you that according to monitoring data in the Sumy region, the condition of the Seim River has stabilized from the border with the Russian Federation to the village of Chaplishchi, Sumy region with a slight increase in dissolved oxygen in the water , a reduction in sharp unpleasant odors and the restoration of natural color,” the message said.
At the same time, due to the fact that in the waters of the Seim, suspended substances settle at the bottom of the river, artificial aeration is impossible in the Sumy region, because it can lead to re-pollution of the river.
“Measures to improve the health of the river will definitely be taken after determining a safe way of carrying out the work and overcoming the consequences of the emergency,” the department added.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reported on Friday, August 30, that in the Chernihiv region on the Desna River, pollutants are absorbed and the water is saturated with oxygen.
