The industry of the EU countries is still increasing its capacity, so the production of ammunition continues to grow, said Josep Borrell.
The European Union has supplied Ukraine with about 700 thousand 155-mm artillery shells out of the promised 1 million EU High Representative Josep Borrell said before a meeting with EU defense ministers in Brussels on Friday , August 30.
“We are now at the level of about 700 thousand 155-mm caliber shells. We are not yet at the target level, but the West is increasing its capabilities,” he said.
According to Borrell, the EU industry is still increasing capacity, so the production of ammunition continues to grow.
In addition, he said that the number of Ukrainian military personnel studying in the European Union will increase. Currently, 60 thousand fighters are trained.
Also today, the ministers will discuss the possibility of opening a coordination center in Kyiv to strengthen cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine on these issues locally.
Let’s remember that in March 2023, at the summit, the leaders of the European Union supported a plan to provide ammunition to Ukraine in the amount of 1 million artillery shells over the next 12 months. Later it was found that the EU could not keep up with the supply of shells.
The media also wrote that the EU greatly overestimated its capabilities for the production of shells for Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukraine was significantly helped by the initiative of the Czech Republic, thanks to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces receive thousands of shells every month.
