The vaccination campaign will begin on Sunday, with the fighting expected to end between 6am and 3pm.
A three-day truce will be declared between Israel and Hamas to allow polio vaccination in Gaza. This was reported by Reuters, citing the words of the most senior representative of the World Health Organization in the Palestinian territories, Rick Peperkorn.
“The Israeli military and representatives of the Palestinian militant group Hamas have agreed to three separately zoned three-day pauses in Gaza that will allow the first round of childhood polio vaccinations,” the publication said.
It was noted that the vaccination campaign should start on Sunday, when fighting should stop between 6 am and 3 pm.
“The campaign will begin in central Gaza with three consecutive days of truce. After that, it will move to southern Gaza, where fighting will also stop for three days, and then to northern Gaza,” the publication wrote.
If necessary, the parties agree to extend these humanitarian pauses by one additional day.
“Four weeks after the first dose, a second round of vaccination is required,” the publication said.
To stop the spread of the polio virus, the WHO will need to reach 90% of children in each region with vaccines.
“We are ready to cooperate with international organizations to carry out this campaign and protect more than 650 thousand Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip,” said Hamas spokesman Basem Naim.
It was previously reported that negotiations between Israel and Hamas on the end of the war in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages ended without the parties reaching a final agreement.
We remind you that the UN has announced that it has suspended humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
