The Russian military is “building large fortifications closer to the new front lines, including at the closest point, only 16 km from the supposed Ukrainian positions.”
Russia’s offensive in the Kursk region has failed to slow Russia’s offensive in eastern Ukraine. The Economist wrote this on Thursday, August 29.
As analysts point out, the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region became a “shock raid” for the Russians. However, it has “passed its first phase for both sides.”
“The Russian military is now building large fortifications closer to the new front lines, including at the closest point, only 16 km from the supposed Ukrainian positions,” the publication quoted American analyst Brady Africa.
The publication, citing its sources, writes that Kursk is a “proof of concept” of Ukraine’s ability to bypass Russia’s numerical advantage. The victory showed what could be achieved if Ukraine’s Western allies lifted restrictions on the use of their weapons. The “shock raid” also yielded about 600 Russian prisoners of war for exchange.
“But the Kursk operation failed to achieve its main goal – to pull Russian forces from Pokrovsk, an important logistics center for Ukrainian troops, Russia moved some troops to the Kursk region from the region of Kherson in the south and from the Chasovoy Yar and Siversk line in the east, and only intensified its offensive in Pokrovsk,” the publication said.
Separately, The Economist points out that “the Russians have better resources, having ten special Ukrainian engineering regiments.”
“One way or another, Ukraine is not only stopping, but also preparing a new stage in the Kursk Bulge,” the publication added.
Sweden believes that the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region dealt a blow to the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
