Putin is aiming for a bigger cold war, and the EU plans to respond with a new protective shield for Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock condemned the attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and accused Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin of preparing for a new cold war against Ukrainians. Tagesschau wrote this on Thursday, August 29.
He noted that Ukraine’s critical infrastructure has recently been suffering from massive shelling by Russia and that the Russians are targeting heating and water supply infrastructure.
“For the purpose of freezing people to death in the winter,” he said.
In his opinion, Putin is aiming for a bigger cold war than in previous years.
According to Burbock, the EU’s response should be a new protective shield for Ukraine.
“Air defense is still the most important thing to protect human life in Ukraine,” added the minister.
Earlier on Thursday, Ukrenergo introduced emergency shutdowns in Kyiv and 11 regions of Ukraine. The power grid continues to recover from Russia’s largest attack on August 26.
It has also been reported that Russia’s shelling has affected the operation of two nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
