The military showed the Oplot main battle tank in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The vehicle apparently belongs to one of the units of the third tank brigade and is used to protect the Kharkiv region from Russian invaders, the military unit reported on Facebook on August 28.
According to Defense Express, this is the first time during the entire full-scale war that the Oplot tank has been mentioned in the combat formations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In May 2023, former Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced his intention to order Oplot for the Ukrainian army, as well as to launch serial production of the vehicle.
As is known, the Oplot tank is a Ukrainian main battle tank, developed and manufactured at the state enterprise V.A. Malyshev Plant in Kharkov. It is a modernization of the T-84 tank. Oplot is intended to replace older tank models in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The newest Ukrainian tank is equipped with a 125mm smoothbore gun, which ensures high shooting accuracy and is capable of hitting targets at long distances. Oplot also has improved armor, which provides a high level of protection for the crew and important systems from modern weapons.
Recall that the details of the Ukrainian drone missile “Palyanitsa” have become known. The creation of this weapon is classified, but “Palyanitsa” is capable of hitting Russian military airfields – within the reach of 20 airfields of the Russian army. The development project lasted 1.5 years.
