The head of the German government admitted that we are talking about 4 billion euros, while in February of this year we were talking about 7.6 billion euros.
Germany will provide military support to Ukraine both from its own budget and with its G7 partners. This was said by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after their talks in Berlin on August 28.
“The draft budget for next year provides and will provide four billion euros for bilateral military support to Ukraine In addition, together with the G7 countries, we will give Ukraine a $50 billion loan,” said Scholz .
It should be noted that at the beginning of February this year, Germany approved a budget of 7.6 billion euros for weapons for Ukraine.
According to him, the debt will be covered by income from fixed assets of the Russian Central Bank, as agreed in June at the Group’s summit in Italy. Scholz is confident that this will not be an easy task, but it can be achieved.
Currently, representatives of all interested states are actively working on technical specifications. The German Chancellor held consultations with the leadership of the European Commission and the leaders of other partners from the G7.
The Chancellor assured that, despite recent attempts to sow doubts about his state’s readiness to continue aid to Kyiv, Germany will continue to provide its financial, economic, political and military support to Ukraine.
When asked about the possibility of transferring new types of weapons to Ukraine, in particular long-range missiles, the head of the German government said that there are no new decisions yet.
Germany is Europe’s largest aid donor and plans to remain so, Scholz added.
