In Ukraine, in the Cherkasy region, they are planning to build a nuclear power plant.
Energoatom is preparing to implement the project to build the Chigirin NPP – near the town of Orbita in the Cherkasy region, where during the Soviet Union they planned to build a nuclear power plant, but under pressure from the public after the Chernobyl accident, this project was stopped. This was reported by the press service of Energoatom.
There are plans to build four new power units using AP1000 technology.
It is noted that the first step in the implementation of this project has already been taken – during the meeting of the extraordinary 51st session, the deputies of the Chigirin City Council made the following decision:
- granting permission to develop a land management project for the allocation of land plots for the permanent use of JSC NNEGC Energoatom;
- transfer of land plots with a total area of 38.1493 hectares for permanent use by JSC NNEGC Energoatom.
Energoatom intends to revive Orbita, making it one of the most modern towns like Netishin, Yuzhnoukrainsk or Varash, emphasized the company’s director Petr Kotin.
It is noted that in order to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security:
- Energoatom is carrying out repair and restoration work at power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky NPP, where VVER-1000 reactors will be built;
- At the Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant, a project was launched to build power units No. 5 and No. 6 using American technology.
