The suspect himself organized the purchase of radio communication technologies and smuggling to Russian government users.
Hungarian citizen Bence Horvath is detained in the United States on suspicion of violating restrictions on the export of goods to Russia. This was stated in a statement on the website of the US Department of Justice.
The Hungarian was accused, among other things, of conspiring with others to illegally export radiocommunication technologies originating in America. He was charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act of 2018.
Horvath was arrested upon arrival at San Francisco International Airport on August 23.
Hungarian and others managed an international procurement network that awarded direct contracts to various Russian government organizations and worked on large projects such as building operational radio communication systems in Russia’s Kursk region and expansion of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Horvath himself organized the purchase of American radio communication technologies and the smuggling of these technologies to Russian government end users through a branch network located in Spain, Serbia, Hungary, Latvia and other countries, the department notes.
Beginning in January 2023, Horvath and other members of his network began negotiations with a small American radio distribution company to purchase and export to Russia US-manufactured military-grade radios and related accessories.
A man bought 200 military-style radios and intended to export them to the Russian Federation, but failed. US Customs and Border Protection intercepted the shipment, preventing the radios from falling into the hands of Russian users.
