The head of state commented on information from Western media that he appealed to his partners to help return men of military age to Ukraine.
President Vladimir Zelensky expects the return of Ukrainian citizens, including men, from abroad, however, without any compulsion to do so. The head of state announced this at the forum Ukraine 2024. Freedom on Tuesday, August 27th.
He commented on information from the Western media that he appealed to his partners to help return men of military age to Ukraine.
“About the men and their return… You see, it is not very politically useful within some states to say that we are sending Ukrainians home – it is too expensive for us to support them. It is easier to raise the issue this a meeting with the President of Ukraine, and then say, that the president asked to return the Ukrainians,” said Zelensky.
The head of state emphasized that he was “of course” in favor of their return, however, “without coercion.”
“There are Ukrainians who work while abroad, and there are those who live on aid… It is clearly not politically beneficial to spend financial aid in the third year of the war and send them to Ukraine,” he added.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that Ukraine is negotiating with European Union countries on the return from abroad of men who crossed the border illegally.
