ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in Solingen, but did not provide any evidence that the attacker acted on their instructions.
German police have detained a suspect in a knife attack on festival-goers in the city of Solingen, which took place last night. Der Spiegel reported this on Saturday, August 24.
It was learned that the alleged attacker himself surrendered to the patrol police. It was a Syrian named Issa al H.
“Security sources said his clothes were dirty and bloody,” wrote Der Spiegel.
More than 24 hours passed between the attack on the festival in the Frohnhof market square and the arrest of the suspect. At this time, representatives of law enforcement agencies are “hot on the trail.”
Meanwhile, the German Ministry of Internal Affairs said they had a suspect, with the search continuing throughout the day.
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul confirmed the arrest and noted that evidence had also been found about the detained man and his possible involvement in the Solingen attack.
The ministry also added that a search of the refugee housing in Solingen was conducted and some additional information was used in the search for the attacker.
Earlier, the Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the Solingen attack. ISIS militants spoke about the massacre and said the attack was carried out by one of its members “in revenge for the deaths of Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere.”
However, the group did not provide any evidence that the attacker acted on the instructions of ISIS, so it is not yet clear whether the accused has close ties to the militants.
We remind you that at a festival in Solingen on Friday, a man with a knife attacked passers-by. At least three people were killed and many others were seriously injured.
It was also reported that in Germany, three people were stabbed while watching the match.
