Stricter checks are carried out to limit risks to the health of people and animals, explains the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service.
From August 25, the Food and Veterinary Service (FVS) of Latvia will carry out enhanced control of various Russian and Belarusian goods at border control points. This was reported by the Baltic media Delfi.
More rigorous testing is carried out to limit risks to human and animal health and, in the case of genetically modified organisms, to the environment.
The decision to tighten control was made by order of the Chief Food and Veterinary Inspector based on the assessment of control results for the period from April 1 to July 31, 2024.
Shipments of food and feed of Russian and Belarusian origin continue to be accepted for control, while at the same time, concerns remain harmless, especially at the beginning of the new harvest season.
The stricter control measures will remain in effect until February 23, 2025.
