The fund, which employs the sons of Russian oligarchs Aven and Moshkovich, helped Elon Musk buy Twitter.
This is reported in a publication by The Washington Post.
In 2022, Elon Musk bought Twitter for more than $44 billion, with the help of banks, financial institutions, and funds. In 2024, a US court ordered Musk to disclose the list of investors in the purchase of the social network. According to the document, one of the 100 largest investors is the venture fund 8VC.
The publication has reviewed a document from the Northern District of California District Court, which indicates that the sons of sanctioned Kremlin oligarchs Petr Aven and Vadim Moshkovich work at 8VC.
Jack Moshkovich, who has permanent residence in the United States since 2024, joined the fund in 2018. Moshkovich’s father, Vadim, is a Russian agricultural oligarch. He founded one of Russia’s largest agricultural companies, Rusagro.
From 2006 to 2014, Moshkovich Sr. was a member of the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council.
Denis Aven is the son of Russian oligarch and Alfa Group President Petr Aven. According to Forbes, he has been working for the fund since 2022, that is, after his father began to be included on Western sanctions lists.
8VC founder Joe Lonsdale complained that the “left” media “attacked” him and his fund allegedly because he supports Trump in the upcoming election. He claimed that Denis Aven and Jack Moszkowicz are close friends and that the latter brought Aven to the fund. Lonsdale insists that the sons of Russian oligarchs are “professionals in their field” and “not connected to their parents’ business in Russia”, which he initially allegedly did not know about.
It should be noted that oligarchs Aven and Moshkovich were present at the meeting with Putin on February 24, 2022, at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
