The number of PIK Wagner members has decreased tenfold since the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Today marks the first anniversary of the death of several key Wagner leaders, including its owner Yevgeny Prigozhin and founder Dmitry Utkin. They died in a plane crash caused by an explosion on board. Since then, the NDA has split into smaller groups, with many leaving the mercenaries, the UK Ministry of Defence said on social media.
It is noted that other key figures have also left the private military company. In particular, the former CEO of the Wagner Group, Andrei Troshev, joined the Russian Defense Ministry. Another commander, Alexander Kuznetsov, headed the Vostok-V unit in May 2024. Many ordinary militants also left Wagner.
The British note that in 2023 the number of “Wagnerites” was about 50 thousand people. And now there are only about 5 thousand militants. The remnants of the formations are in Belarus and Africa.
Recall that in July in Africa, a coalition of armed groups in northern Mali, populated predominantly by Tuaregs, eliminated dozens of government soldiers and Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group in a battle near the border with Algeria.
