A prison colony in Russia’s Volgograd region, where prisoners staged a riot, was stormed by special forces.
The assault lasted for about 30 minutes. The security forces later announced that four attackers had been eliminated and all hostages had been freed. However, at least two colony workers were killed and five more were injured. This is reported by Russian media.
It is noted that the rebels called themselves followers of the Islamic State. The goal of seizing the colony was revenge for the Crocus shopping center and all Muslims oppressed in Russia.
Let us recall that today in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation, inmates took hostages in the maximum security penal colony No. 19. The rebels demanded $2 million, a helicopter and the opportunity to leave the country without hindrance.
According to Russian security officials, four criminals took eight prison staff and four convicts hostage. Four prison guards were stabbed, three of whom died almost immediately. Another four prison staff were hospitalized. One of them later died in the hospital.
As is known, this is already the second hostage-taking in a Russian correctional facility in two months. The first occurred in June in the Rostov pretrial detention center. There, the hostages were also freed during the assault – five of the six rebels were eliminated.
