The stone is the largest diamond found in 119 years and the second largest after the Cullinan diamond, which was found in South Africa in 1905.
A record-sized diamond has been found in a mine in Botswana in Africa. The fist-sized stone was presented to the world by the country’s President Mokgweetsi Massisi in a ceremony. The Associated Press wrote this on Thursday, August 22.
The Botswana government said the huge diamond, weighing 2,492 carats, was the second largest found at the mine and the largest diamond found since 1905.
“It’s amazing. I’m lucky to have seen it,” Massisi said.
It is not yet known how much the stone is worth and how it will be sold.
Another, smaller diamond from the same mine sold in 2016 for $63 million, a record for a rough gemstone.
Naseem Lahri, managing director of Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond in Botswana, said the diamond was found, recovered from the Karowe mine in central Botswana using special X-ray technology designed to find large, high that value of diamonds.
The stone is the largest diamond found in 119 years and the second largest after the Cullinan diamond, which was found in South Africa in 1905. The famous Cullinan weighs 3,106 carats and is cut into precious stones, some of which are part of British Crown Jewels.
A larger, but less pure black diamond was found in Brazil in the late 1800s. However, it was found on the surface of the earth and is believed to be part of a meteorite.
Botswana is the second largest producer of natural diamonds in the world. In recent years, all the largest rocks in the world have been found here. In the past decade, the Karowe mine has produced four more diamonds weighing more than 1,000 carats.
It was previously reported that a unique pink diamond, the most valuable and brightest of its kind, will be auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York.
