In Belarus, political prisoners convicted by the courts of the regime of self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko have begun to be released.
The European Union stressed that hundreds of people still remain in Belarusian prisons for political reasons and are awaiting release. This was stated in a statement by the European External Action Service on Thursday, August 22.
Thus, the European Union commented on the information about the release of some political prisoners in Belarus who were convicted of participating in peaceful protests after the fraudulent 2020 presidential elections.
“We also take into account the fact that some of the released prisoners require emergency medical attention and call on the authorities to provide all prisoners with adequate medical care,” the statement said.
The EU Foreign Office stressed that more than 1,300 political prisoners are still being held in Belarus, including Sergei Tikhanovsky, Igor Losik, Maria Kolesnikova, Nikolai Statkevich, Maxim Znak and Viktor Babariko.
“The EU continues to call on the Belarusian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners, who are often held in life-threatening conditions,” the EU stressed.
Remind you that the dictator of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that the opposition of Belarus is allegedly dreaming of getting part of Belarus.
