The delegation will meet with authorities and church leaders to find a way of understanding between Ukraine’s Orthodox Christians.
Representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate arrived in the capital of Ukraine. This was reported by the stauropegy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Ukraine on August 21.
“After communication between representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine and his holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, a delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate arrived in Ukraine,” the message said.
The delegation included the Archbishop of Winnipeg, Metropolitan of the UOC of Canada Hilarion, Metropolitan Job of Pisidia and Patriarchal Deacon Epifaniy Kamenovich.
“The arrival of the delegation in the same composition was planned last year, but due to unpredictable technical reasons, its visit was postponed,” said stauropegia.
The delegation will reportedly “take part in celebrations marking the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and meet with government officials and church leaders.”
It was indicated that special attention will be given to finding ways of understanding between Orthodox Christians and dialogue to achieve unity in the matter of the church.
Yesterday, members of the delegation visited the stauropegy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Ukraine – St. Andrew’s Church, where they held a prayer service for the victory of Ukraine, the brave Ukrainian people and peace of the church in the state.
Let’s recall that on August 20, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law banning the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in Ukraine. This ban also applies to organizations associated with the Russian Orthodox Church, including the UOC MP.
And the day before it became known that President Vladimir Zelensky had a telephone conversation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
