If Ukraine were to achieve victory in Kursk, the Russian Federation would likely have to withdraw more forces from occupied territories, potentially weakening its defense position, analysts said.
The Ukrainian armed forces may launch a counter-offensive in 2025, despite the fact that a significant part of the Russian army is still concentrated in the Donetsk region. The Telegraph wrote this on Wednesday, August 21.
At the same time, the publication states that many factors are important for the successful advancement of Ukrainian defenders.
“First, if Ukraine continues to succeed at Kursk, Russia may need to withdraw more forces from the occupied territories which would potentially weaken Russia’s defensive position and help Ukrainian troops expand range of drone strikes.
Second, the Ukrainian brigades currently undergoing training could be deployed for reinforcement in either the Kursk or Donetsk regions, depending on where Russian forces are showing signs of weakness. This flexibility could allow Kyiv to mount a counter-offensive in 2025, rather than another offensive in occupied Donbass.
The third factor is Ukraine’s destruction of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the accelerated dismantling of the Russian air defense network in Crimea. This has already put Russian troops on the peninsula on the defensive, and will likely influence Crimea to become the next target. And the Kerch Bridge, which has been a frequent target of Ukrainian sabotage, will be destroyed in the near future,” writes The Telegraph.
We remind you that in the evening report the General Staff reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are continuing their offensive in the Kursk region.
