Several NATO members have yet to deliver on commitments they reaffirmed at the alliance’s summit in Washington last month, the sources said on condition of anonymity. They included pledges to send at least five additional long-range systems.
NATO’s air defense pledge, which includes commitments already made, was the centerpiece of allied support at the alliance’s July summit. The United States, Germany, and Romania each pledged one Patriot, and a fourth would be supplied with components from several countries.
Italy has promised to send the SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system. Several members of the Alliance have pledged to send Ukraine other systems and ammunition.
Many of NATO’s promises are unlikely to be fulfilled before the autumn, when Russia is expected to exploit the vulnerability of war-torn Ukraine and step up bombing of critical Ukrainian infrastructure, the sources said.
