The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a bill establishing the existence of the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The government also allocated UAH 24 million for the purchase of drones. Ukraine has made a real breakthrough in the production and use of drones. Contracts have already been signed for 1 million drones, these UAVs will be produced by 500 Ukrainian companies. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported this on Telegram.
According to the Prime Minister, in the war with Russia the state is relying on innovations, asymmetric responses and approaches.
At the initiative of the President, a separate branch of the armed forces was created within the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – the Unmanned Systems Forces. Ukraine is the first country in the world to complete their staffing. The Government is fulfilling the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and approving the bill that legislatively approves the existence of the Unmanned Systems Forces, – the head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted at a government meeting.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense reported that since the beginning of 2024, the Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense has purchased drones for UAH 30 billion. In total, more than 350 thousand drones were contracted. These are both the most popular FPV and “mavics” by the military, as well as expensive reconnaissance and strike UAVs of the aircraft type, which can operate deep behind enemy lines.
Let us recall that on June 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Decree No. 382/2024, which approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of June 25, 2024 “On the creation of the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Colonel Vadim Sukharevsky, who previously held the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was appointed commander of this branch of the military.
