Minsk has redeployed about a third of its army in response to “aggressive Ukrainian policy,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
Belarus was “forced” to move almost a third of its army to the Ukrainian border. The self-proclaimed president of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, said this in an interview with Rossiya TV channel, Belta news agency reported on August 18.
The politician claims that Ukraine maintains more than 120 thousand troops near the borders of Belarus.
“Seeing their (Ukraine’s – ed.) aggressive policy, we introduced and placed our military there at several points – such as in case of war, defense – along the entire border. Almaz and others are the most prepared, ” emphasized Lukashenko.
According to him, Ukraine has concentrated troops on the border with Belarus because it expects an offensive from near Gomel, as happened at the beginning of the war.
“And they began to move up to 120 thousand military personnel. In response, I was forced to move almost a third of the army in addition to strengthen what was there,” said the politician.
He also added that Belarus has created a reliable defense line that will stop a possible offensive from the western direction.
“Ten groups of NATO tactical battalions are stationed on the western border, and it is also unknown what the plans are there. Practically, the Lithuanian and Polish borders are blocked to a useful extent for us those conditions,” said Lukashenko.
Earlier it was reported that the formal leader of Belarus ordered to strengthen the grouping of troops in the tactical directions of Gomel and Mozyr.
