Electricity production in Lebanon is completely dependent on two power plants – Deir Ammar and Zahrani. There are two other power plants in the country – Jiye and Zouk – but they are being repaired.
In Lebanon, the last power plant in the country stopped working due to a lack of fuel. There was a complete blackout in the country. These are the reports of Beirut.
It is indicated that the large Deir Ammar power plant shut down on August 7, and the Zahrani power plant on Saturday afternoon.
Because of this, Lebanese residents are in complete darkness. Strategic areas and critical infrastructure in Lebanon were left without power: Beirut airport and seaport, water pumps, sewer systems, prisons and other essential facilities.
“The power plants will remain inactive until the authorities resolve the issue of diesel fuel supply from Iraq or from other sources,” the publication wrote.
Acting Energy Minister Walid Fayad said authorities are trying to solve the problem, but the first shipment of diesel is not expected to arrive until the first week of September.
A year ago, Lebanon was also completely cut off from electricity. The reason for this is that the two thermal power plants stopped providing energy due to non-payment of debt.
Also, a similar situation occurred in 2022. The electricity supply then was stopped due to a dispute at a power plant in the village of Aramoun near Beirut.
