The main threat to religious freedom in Ukraine is Russia’s aggression, which has killed dozens of priests and destroyed hundreds of churches and houses of worship, the organization said in a statement.
Representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) supported the bill banning religious organizations associated with Russia. This was stated in a statement released on Saturday, August 17.
In particular, the Council of Churches condemned the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Moscow Patriarchate, which “justify pogroms and restrictions on religious freedom, torturing and killing priests and pastors and cynical trampling on the Lord’s establishment and the elementary standards of universal morality.”
“We support the legislative initiative of the President of Ukraine to curb the activities of such organizations in our country, which also has broad political and public support,” the statement said.
It is known that Zelensky confirmed on the evening of August 16 that AUCCRO supported the bill banning the UOC-MP in Ukraine.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (WTO), Metropolitan Epifaniy, called on the Primate of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onuphry, to continue the dialogue on the unity of the Orthodox Church on the territory of Ukraine.
It was earlier reported that a UOC-MP priest was in jail, preparing a strike in the military echelons. Two Russian military intelligence agents were detained, but the main defendant was a Russian citizen, the rector of one of the UOC MP’s Kharkov churches.
Ukraine, as part of the exchange of prisoners, gave Russia two traitors from the UOC MP
