The restrictions are related to the act of aggression that took place in the Palestinian settlement of Jit, when a crowd of Jews set fire to the houses and cars of Palestinians.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said on social network X (Twitter) that he will propose new sanctions against Israeli settlers in the West Bank after the Jit settlement incident.
We are talking about an incident that happened the day before, on August 15, in the Palestinian settlement of Jit. Afterwards, several dozen far-right Jews set fire to houses and cars belonging to Palestinian families. Local residents said a Palestinian was killed.
Borrell condemned what happened in Jita and the “de facto impunity” of Israeli settlers “fueling violence in the occupied West Bank, destroying any chance of peace.”
“The Israeli government must immediately stop all these unacceptable manifestations of aggression, I confirm my intention to submit a proposal to the European Union to impose sanctions against those who encourage the violence of settlers, including several ministers representing the Israeli government,” he added.
The diplomat did not specify which ministers he was talking about, but earlier he suggested imposing sanctions on Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
