Due to the continued shelling from Russia, 21 thousand people have already been evacuated from the Sumy region, and another 25 thousand citizens will be next in line. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko in a telethon on Friday, August 16.
“So far, 21,000 of our citizens living on the border of the Sumy region have been evacuated and we are ready to evacuate another 25 thousand people,” he said.
The minister added that 75% of those evacuated from the Sumy region were children.
The evacuation is carried out by employees of the National Police and State Emergency Services.
“We are working together with the OVA, which determines the settlements and the number of people who need to be evacuated. Most of the people in the Sumy region sympathize with the evacuation and the security measures that the authorities are taking in these territories,” said by Klimenko. .
It was previously reported that in the Sumy region a mandatory evacuation is underway from the settlements of five communities in the Sumy region.
Restrictions were introduced on the movement of all citizens in the 20-kilometer border zone of the Sumy region.
