Ukraine has strengthened its control over parts of Russia’s Kursk region by announcing the appointment of a military commander to govern the area.
Ukrainian troops are attacking not only the Kursk region of Russia, but also advancing in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The Washington Post writes about it on Thursday, August 15.
As the publication writes, “this means a larger scale of the offensive, which changes the perception of the West that Ukraine is on the losing side of the conflict.”
At the same time, the WP stressed that the fighting in the Belgorod region is fierce.
“Three soldiers, including a commander, described how, after months of deployment on the border, they were sent to Russia in the Belgorod region. They crossed the border with armored vehicles in broad daylight four days ago. move,” the newspaper wrote. I cite my own sources of information.
The interlocutor of the publication added that, unlike the Kursk region, Russian troops in the Belgorod region seem to be ready for their arrival. The area was fortified with anti-tank barriers and heavy mines, and Ukrainian forces almost immediately came under heavy attack from artillery, drones and airstrikes.
“The Ukrainians advanced about ten kilometers, capturing the abandoned positions of the Russian troops, but the battle remains intense. At the same time, many Ukrainian soldiers were wounded,” the publication said.
Russia does not recognize ground fighting in the Belgorod region, but the region’s governor has declared a state of emergency.
Meanwhile, the front line approached Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, at a distance of more than ten kilometers.
Ukrposhta is ready to open a branch in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Sudzha, Kursk region of the Russian Federation, if it receives instructions from the headquarters for work in the liberated territories under the Cabinet of Ministers.
